‘Carbon footprint nationalism’: re-conceptualizing Finnish nationalism and national pride through climate change discourse

During recent years media discussion over the gravity of climate change has increased rapidly. One most used bywords been ‘carbon footprint’, a concept with moral appeal to global responsibility and sense environmental togetherness. However, footprint responsibility’ cannot be separated from nationalistically loaded affects their representations but instead it effected new articulations that support state-centric ideologies, offering fresh starting point for re-conceptualizing theories nationalism. This article analyses how Finnish constructs contradictory discourse in which debate carbon merges argumentation.
